Participants are expected to have some experience in the mining industry and are willing to learn more about mineral resource estimation, applied geostatistics, resource classification, and reporting.
This program is not suitable for students.
Approved by the National Committee for Reporting Mineral Resources and Reserves in India (NACRI) for 20 professional development hours (PDH).
Explanation of Professional Development Hours:
16 contact hours (4 live sessions of 4 hours each) + 4 hours of reading assignments
The participants of this program are expected to gain knowledge and some experience on several critical aspects of resource estimation which may be useful for improving the reliability of resource/reserve estimation at the workplace.
Each session will end with a Q&A session.
Digital course materials will be provided which contain a subset of PowerPoint slides and other materials (book chapters and published papers)

Details of the interpolation, kriging, and computer-based exercises will be available later part of 2023 in an in-person, intense program in India.
Dr. Abani R Samal holds an M. Tech degree from IIT(ISM), Dhanbad, MS and DIC from Imperial College, London, and Ph.D. from SIU-C, USA.
He joined the mining industry in January 1996 as a geologist in a surface and underground chromite mining operation in eastern India. He has nearly 25 years of industry experience in the mining industry. Dr. Samal is an expert in mineral deposit studies and evaluation.
He is well-recognized as an economic geologist, a geostatistician, and a leader in the mining industry. Currently, he is the owner and Principal of GeoGlobal LLC in the USA. Prior to this role, he worked as a Principal with Rio Tinto at their Salt Lake City, Utah (USA) regional headquarters. He was also the lead resource geologist and geostatistician at Pincock, Allen, and Holt (now RPM Global). Dr. Samal has experience in gold-silver, copper, lead-zinc, iron ore, diamond, and rare-earth element deposits.
He is a Registered Membership and Fellow of the Society for Mining Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) and a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) with the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). He also maintains as a fellow of the Mining Engineers’ Association of India, fellow of the Geological Society of India, a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists, life member of IAMG, and a member of GSA, and SAIMM.
He served as an honorary representative of the CRIRSCO in India from 2015 to 2019. He serves as a member of the NACRI management committee.
Dr Samal practices as a qualified person (QP) globally.
